The pyramids of ancient Egypt have been a source of wonder and mystery for 4,500 years. Pyramid Weekend Saturday and Sunday is a special program to complement the Royal B.C. Museum's Eternal Egypt: Masterworks of Ancient Art from the British Museum exhibition.
The Centre of the Universe, 5072 West Saanich Rd., is collaborating with the Royal B.C. Museum this weekend by offering special evening events Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, including a multimedia presentation on Egypt and the stars. Call the observatory at 363-8262 for more information.
A highlight of Pyramid Weekend at the museum is a display of seven exact miniature replicas of the great pyramids by Dieter Cöllen, world renowned cork modeller.
The German-based architect recently revived the art of cork modelling and will finish constructing an eigth model pyramid over the course of the weekend.
Hands-on activities, demonstrations and presentations about the Egyptians' use of the stars and pyramids will be offered free with admission to Eternal Egypt and the museum.
Tickets are $22.50, $16.26 for students and seniors, and free for children five and under. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It's suggested you buy tickets in advance at the museum, online at www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca or by phone at 1-800-663-3883.
